Online Course : Ventilator Course

Course Description

This 3-hour course emphasizes key considerations applicable  to the rehabilitation professional in effectively managing patients with respiratory  failure. The majority of the time will be spent taking a very close look at how ventilators work to provide therapists with advanced information needed to  assist them in treating patients who have respiratory compromise. The course will then attempt to emphasize the  response-dependent approach to managing these patients.  Evaluation strategies, organized clinical  decision making, and effective treatment techniques will be emphasized.  Clinicians are challenged to integrate and  synthesize physiological and clinical principles in decision making through the use of this information. 

Course Objectives

At the end of the course the learner will: 

1. Recognize “What is Ventilation” 
2. Appreciate the differences between non-invasive and invasive ventilation.
3. Understand the settings on a mechanical ventilator. 
4. Recognize the settings of a mechanical ventilator and appreciate a patient’s clinical stability by accurately monitoring their responses on the ventilator. 
5. Participants will be able to adjust treatment sessions based on a patient’s physiologic response.
